Kate is super horn!
Kate Eggleshaw has been appointed principle tenor horn of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
All the members of YBS Band send our congratulations to Kate .
Do you have a YBS uniform?
Over the past few months our supply of uniforms has got smaller and smaller! With all the changes in the band it would appear that several players who have been members of the band (or helped out for several weeks) have been given a stage uniform and then not handed it back when they have left.
If you have one of our green shirts and waistcoats then please can you contact one of the band and try to get them back to us as soon as possible. The green shirts are a rather unique shade and I can't imagine too many people would want to wear them on a night out around Leeds or Manchester!
Kerwin takes YBS hot seat
The talented Alex Kerwin has been appointed the new Principal Cornet of the YBS Band where she will take over from Iain Culross with immediate effect.
Announcing the appointment of Alex the band's spokesman, Simon Gresswell, said 'First of all, everyone at YBS would like to place on record our thanks to Iain who joined us at the turn of this year. We just felt however that appointing Alex to the Principal Cornet seat was the right direction to go at this time'.
Alexandra Kerwin was brought up in the heart of the brass band world in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Her greatest playing achievements, so far, came in 2003 when she was crowned 'British Open Solo Champion' and won the coveted best soloist prize at the Brass in Concert Championships 2003. The year after Alex won Best Soloist at the NZ Band of the Year and Best Instrumentalist at the NZ Championships. She was also part of the Black Dyke band who won the 2004 National Championships. She has released two solo CDs.
In recent years Alex has spent time in New Zealand with her husband Simon and their children during which time Alex recorded Poles Apart with euphonium player, Riki McDonnell but returned to the UK earlier in the year.
